While 2014's viral Ice Bucket Challenge raised awareness and funds for ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease), it remains an "orphan disease" (rare disease with limited and high-cost treatment options). As such, ALS does not receive the levels of attention or funding as other more common disorders.
Proceeds from Dave's World Marathon Challenge will go directly toward the Brigance Brigade Foundation so that it may provide access to equipment, support services and resources that will drastically improve the quality of life for more people living with ALS (PALS) and their families.
Your support will provide:
BBF is one of the few organizations that funds the vital need of in-home care for PALS. Quality in-home healthcare supports the physical and emotional well-being of the PALS and Caregivers of people living with ALS (CALS).
BBF supports grant requests for equipment purchases or rental-fees not covered by insurance. Such equipment aids PALS with mobility, communication, and breathing so that PALS can live with as much independence as possible. BBF is one of the few organizations that also funds installation costs, supplies, and maintenance plans associated with equipment that assists PALS in their daily lives.
To support PALS independence and safety, BBF considers funding requests for home modification projects such as bathroom accessibility, door widening, ramp installation, sidewalk repair, and purchase of compact generators.
